Flight Data Analysis (FDA) program, sometimes referred to as Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) or Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA), is the pro-active and non-punitive program for gathering and analyzing data, digitally recorded during routine flights to improve aviation safety. FDA programs are a logical component of a mature safety management system. The use of this most important safety tool is growing as technology expands the capabilities of gathering and analyzing such data. The rate of accidents.
which occur in the arena of operations can be reduced by the proper application of FDA techniques in everyday airline operations, thus allowing flight operations occurrences to be analyzed and corrected on a day-by-day basis. The information and insights provided by FDA can improve safety by identifying safety hazards and enhancing training effectiveness, operational procedures, maintenance and engineering procedures, and air traffic control procedures, Ref: ADVISORY CIRCULAR 120 – CSEA 007.
FDA covering several major processes ranging from the retrieval of raw data from the FDA aircraft up to
the implementation of the results of the FDA analysis back to the airplane. FDA overall process is the
responsibility of the Air Operator. FDA Provider only carry out most functions of the FDA program for the
collection of raw data, converting raw data into engineering units value, event detection and verification
as well as reporting to the Air Operator. The following is block diagram FDA cycle.
Aering has experience for years on data analysis for regular and special purposes, such as Flight Data Recorder (FDR) readout and event/incident analysis. For advanced service of this data analysis, Aering also provide FDA program service so that customers can get further benefits of their flight recorder data. Aering as FDA service provider shall perform data analysis activities from routine flights to detect events and/or obtain the data trends. By getting the information, customers through their manager of the air operator’s Flight Safety Program may assess it and can perform remedial actions to improve their safety
Flight data provides valuable insights into aircraft operations, helping operators monitor performance, identify operational events, and improve flight safety.
PT AERING’s FOQA/FDM/FDA solution processes recorded flight data to identify relevant parameters, events, and potential deviations from procedures, limitations, or safety criteria.
Detected events are reviewed and verified by the FOQA/FDM/FDA Operator, then assessed by the FOQA/FDM/FDA Manager. Where necessary, crew feedback is included to provide additional operational context.
The results are discussed during the Flight Safety Officer Review Meeting to evaluate safety concerns and determine appropriate follow-up actions. Findings may lead to improvements in procedures, manuals, training, and operational practices.
Through this continuous process, PT AERING helps operators transform flight data into actionable safety insights, strengthen operational oversight, and continuously improve flight safety.
